Rules

  • Patrons must follow posted signage and the Patron Standards of Conduct.
  • Personal use of fireworks is prohibited at all County-owned facilities, including our parks, open spaces, trails, and recreation centers/facilities.
  • In compliance with the Utah Clean Air Act smoking, smokeless tobacco, and vaping (e-cigarettes) are all prohibited in or around Salt Lake County facilities and parks.
  • Possession of illegal drugs, beer, and alcoholic beverages is prohibited in or around Salt Lake County facilities and parks.
  • Salt Lake County is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Leave your valuables at home.
  • Dogs must always be on leash at parks unless otherwise posted.
  • Food, sunflower seeds, tobacco and/or vaping, chewing gum, driving stakes, vehicles, metal cleats, sharp objects, and animals are NOT allowed at Salt Lake County Athletic Fields in Murray.

Parks & Recreation Rules

  • Service first come, first served.
  • Drop-In Day Care Admission Agreement is required before a child is allowed.
  • Services are for children between 8 weeks and 9 years old.
  • Max capacity of 20 children (ages 8 weeks - 1-year count as 2 children)
  • Maximum 2-hour use. Parent or Guardian must remain on-site at all times.
  • No personal items allowed
  • Parent will be asked to return to a child if:
    • Child requires a diaper change
    • Child continues to misbehave
    • Child has been crying for more than 20 minutes
  • No food or drink allowed
  • The same person who signs the child into the day care must sign the child out.
  • NO SICK CHILDREN ARE ALLOWED INTO THE DAYCARE.
  • All pacifiers must be attached to the child with a clip or be labeled.
  • All walking children must wear shoes and or socks in the daycare unless staff says so.
  • You are discouraged from bringing personal items from home as the center cannot be responsible for them. However, if such items are necessary for the child’s security, please be sure they are marked appropriately.

  • Patrons must be 16 years or older to use the fitness areas. We offer a free weight room certification program for 14 and 15 year olds. The class for weight room certification is offered when the fitness attendant is in the weight room.
  • Work-out clothes including athletic shoes and a shirt must be worn at all times. No jeans, pants with rivets, belt loops, belts, or opened toed shoes or sandals are allowed. It is recommended that backpacks, coats, and personal items be stored off the fitness floor in lockers.
  • Only capped, spill-proof water bottles are allowed. No gum, food, or other drinks are permitted.
  • All equipment is first come first served. During peak times there is a 30-minute time limit on cardio equipment. Please do not do multiple sets on weight machines during busy times.
  • Use spotters and spring clamps when using free weights.
  • Please wipe down equipment after use.
  • Please rack free weights when you are finished.
  • Slamming or dropping of weights is not tolerated.
  • Lifting chalk and/or powder is not allowed in the Center.
  • Please do not spit on any equipment in the facility.
  • Personal Trainers must be on contract with Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation.

  • All persons must register at the front desk before using any portion of the facility including the gym.
  • Hanging on basketball rims is prohibited.
  • Wear only shoes that do not mark the gym floor.
  • Only capped, spill-proof water bottles are allowed. No gum, food or other drinks.
  • Offensive language or behavior, roughhousing, and fighting will not be tolerated.
  • Basketballs and other equipment may be checked out at the front desk. Picture ID is required for checkout / rentals.

  • General Ice Rink Rules apply to all Ice Rink Patrons and at all times.
  • No food or beverages are allowed on the ice, except plastic bottles of water.
  • Skaters shall be alert to other skaters at all times and yield to slower skaters.
  • Private coaches and instructors must be licensed with Salt Lake County before coaching or instructing in a County facility.
  • Lessons during Public Skate sessions are allowed, however rink personnel may cancel scheduled lessons at their discretion. If ten or more public skaters are present during a Public Skate session, coaches must either skate with the flow of traffic or stay in the center of the ice (between blue lines and the red dots).
  • During Public Skate sessions, skaters may not cut across the ice, do any high speed maneuvers, or go in the opposite direction of skating traffic.
  • Before entering the ice, skaters must pay for their session and show their receipt to the Facility Ice Monitor. Except goalies participating in the Stick & Puck or Drop-In sessions do not have to pay for the session.

  • In order to protect the health of all children at the Center, we are not able to admit children who are sick. Please keep your child at home if he/she has a communicable disease, a persistent cough, runny nose, sore throat, fever, diarrhea, or any other condition that would prevent them from participating in normal daily activities at the Center.
  • In order to prevent lost or broken personal items as well as conflicts between children, please do not send toys, candy, gum, personal electronic devices, or money from home. We are not responsible for lost or broken personal items.
  • Tuition payments are due before services are rendered as our activities are all pre-paid programs. Late fees will be assessed to each account after 10 business days. Delinquent accounts will be referred to the County Attorney's Office for collections and will be assessed reasonable collection fees in addition to the amount due.

  • LOCKER ROOM AGE POLICY: Children 4 and under may enter the locker room with a parent, regardless of their gender. Children 5 and over may only use the locker room of their gender. Anyone may use the family change rooms at any time.
  • Lockers are for day use only. Lockers that are not cleared at the end of the day will have the lock cut off and all items will be removed and bagged for pick-up. There will be a two (2) week holding period at which time all items found will be sent to an establishment that collects and resells used merchandise.
  • Patrons are responsible for bringing their own locks when using the lockers.

  • Do not drive vehicles on the grass or sidewalks.
  • Staking is prohibited.
  • No water play.
  • Pavilions and parks may not be used for commercial purposes, such as vending or fundraising. 
  • Permits are required for Special Events (5K, movie in the park, any event over 50 people).

Health and Safety Rules

  • A cleansing shower must be taken before entering the pool and after each use of the restroom.
  • Diaper Policy Enforced: Children 2 and under or wearing diapers must wear a commercial swim diaper and tight fitting rubber pants regardless.  All other diapers are prohibited in the pool.  Swim diapers are available for purchase at the customer service desk.
  • A person with bandages, blisters, cuts, rashes, stitches, and/or communicable diseases is prohibited from using the pool.
  • All accidents, however minor, must be reported to a lifeguard on duty.
  • Bring your own cooler. Glass and alcohol are prohibited.
  • The use of the pool while under the influence of alcohol or impairing drugs is prohibited.

Behavior Rules

  • Diving into the pool from the deck is allowed in designated deep water areas only.
  • Jumping or diving backwards, spinning, and flipping off the edge of the pool are not allowed.
  • Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied in the water at all times and stay within arm’s reach of a parent, guardian, or chaperone 14 years of age or older. Chaperone must be in a swimsuit. This rule applies even if the child is wearing a life jacket. 
  • Children 6-9 years of age must be supervised in the pool area by a parent, guardian, or chaperone at least 14 years of age or older.
  • Lap swimmers under 14 years of age must be supervised by a parent, guardian, or chaperone at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Swimsuits or appropriate swimwear must be worn. Swimming in street clothing such as cut-off sweat pants, jeans, t- shirts or any clothing made of cotton fabric, etc. is prohibited.
  • There may be safety breaks when the entire pool will be cleared.
  • Sitting, hanging, or playing on safety ropes, ramps or ladders is prohibited.
  • Running on the deck, shoulder riding, and rough play are prohibited.
  • Offensive, disrespectful or unruly behavior, profanity, and abusive language are prohibited.
  • No cameras or cell phones are allowed in the water.

Equipment Rules

  • Properly-fitted Coast Guard-approved life jackets are only allowed in water 5 feet deep or less. Life jackets are not allowed in water deeper than 5 feet or on slides.
  • Only Coast guard approved floatation devices are allowed.
  • Lifeguard staff must approve all play toys and flotation devices brought into the pool area.
  • Kickboards and pull buoys are for lap swimmers only.
  • Must be 18 or older and be able to swim to use a noodle for exercise only.
  • Mermaid Tails or Mono Finns are prohibited.

Lap Swim Rules

  • Swimmers must be 15 years or older and must be able to swim consecutive laps. Swimmers under 18 may only use lap lanes during open plunge.  Approval by the Aquatics Facility Coordinator is required if swimmer is under the age of 15.
  • When there are 2 people in a lane, please split the lane and swim side by side.
  • If more than 2 people are in a lap lane, swimmers are required to “Circle Swim” by staying on the right hand side of the lane and swimming in a counterclockwise direction. Please stay close to lane line to avoid hitting others and continue swimming in a circular fashion.
  • Any swimmer planning on joining a lane will inform the swimmer currently occupying the space before joining the lane. Lap swimmers entering an occupied lane should be certain the swimmers already in the lane know that they are entering the lane and whether they should Circle Swim or split the lane.
  • In shared lanes no butterfly stroke or adapted stroke that may affect the safety of other swimmers is permitted.
  • When a faster swimmer needs to pass please stop at the wall and allow the patron to pass you.
  • Equipment such as kickboards, pull buoys, fins, etc. may be used only when not interfering with someone else’s swim space.
  • Whenever possible choose a lane with swimmers who hold a pace similar to your own. Take a few minutes to observe the swimmers gauge which lane is best for you.
  • Lanes may be designated Fast, Medium, and Slow by the lifeguard. Swimmers must choose the appropriate lane for their speed compared to the other swimmers using lanes.
  • The on-duty lifeguard reserves the right to rearrange swimmers based on ability and pace to make best use of the available lanes.
  • No use of starting blocks.
  • Water walkers and joggers will yield the right of way to lap swimmers and may be required to leave the lap lanes in favor of lap swimmers when the lanes are crowded.
  • Lap lanes are designated for swimming and should not be used for lounging or playing.

Lifeguards have the authority to suspend pool privileges if rules are violated.

Our pools are ADA-friendly. Please inquire with pool staff for assistance utilizing our pool lifts, pool wheelchairs, or other required reasonable accommodations.

  • All patrons and visitors must check-in/slide membership cards at the front desk.
  • Food and beverages are not allowed in the Fitness Area or Gym with the exception of capped, spill-proof, non-glass water bottles.
  • All children under the age of ten (10) must be accompanied by an adult (age 18 or older) in all areas of Salt Lake County Recreation facilities at all times.
  • Persons with infectious diseases are prohibited from using the facility. Open wounds must be covered.
  • Please use only the parking areas immediately adjacent to our facilities.
  • No bare feet are allowed outside of locker rooms with the exception of organized classes such as karate and gymnastics.
  • Patrons are fully responsible for personal items that are lost, stolen, or damaged. Books, bags, coats, and personal items should be kept in a locker and are not allowed in activity areas. 
  • Offensive or hostile language and/or swearing are not allowed.
  • Misuse, moving, or altering any portion of Salt Lake County property is prohibited.
  • Abuse and/or misuse of County property and equipment is unacceptable. Violators will be held financially responsible for damages and losses. Any area in which the above rules are violated will be subject to closure.
  • Violators will be asked to leave the premises and action may result in entry privileges being suspended or revoked.

Salt Lake County park hours vary by location; however, most are open 5 am–10 pm. To confirm hours, refer to the signs at the specific park(s) because city/municipal ordinances guide hours and activities. Weather and maintenance may result in temporary park closures.
