Eighty People In Salt Lake County To Be Sworn In As U.S. Citizens During Welcoming Week 2023 Ceremony

Salt Lake County, UT – Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson will officially kick off Welcoming Week 2023 by leading a Proclamation Signing and Naturalization Ceremony on September 8, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Library's Viridian Event Center in West Jordan.
The event will commence with the signing of the Welcoming Week proclamation, an important moment where Salt Lake County Mayor Wilson will be joined by city and township mayors from throughout the county. Together, they will affirm their commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community that celebrates diversity and the contributions of all residents. Mayor Wilsons says, “Salt Lake County is a place where anyone, regardless of their background, can be seen, embraced, welcomed, and included.”
Following the proclamation signing, over 80 candidates from 37 countries will participate in a citizenship oath ceremony facilitated by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). These individuals, hailing from Salt Lake and the surrounding communities, represent a wide array of nations, including Afghanistan, Argentina, Armenia, Bangladesh, and many others.
Welcoming Week 2023, themed "We Belong Here," aims to emphasize the importance of unity and belonging within our communities. The event will provide an opportunity for Salt Lake County's mayors to extend their congratulations and warm wishes to the newest United States citizens as they embark on this transformative journey. The event is spearheaded by Joseph Genda, Salt Lake County New American and Refugee Liaison. He is a former refugee from Sierra Leone.
