Mayor's Office Intern Cohort

The Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office welcomes aspiring professionals through its internship opportunities. Our internship programs are designed to offer a well-rounded experience for participants to learn, grow, and collaborate in a professional setting.

As an intern at the Salt Lake County Mayor's Office, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the dynamic world of local government.   • Internships are available for students in undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as post-graduate students.
  • Individuals who are currently merit employees are not eligible to be considered for an internship at Salt Lake County.

  • Hands-on experience - Salt Lake County provides interns the opportunity to learn about their field of interest, develop practical skills, and understand how concepts are implemented in a professional setting.

 

  • Networking - Working with supervisors and colleagues during the internship offers the chance for interns to build professional networks. 

 

  • Intern Cohort - The intern cohort provides a collaborative environment for interns to learn, grow, and support each other during their internships. The intern cohort holds weekly check-in meetings, providing a time for interns to discuss their projects and overall progress.

 

  • Lunch and Learns - Lunch and learn sessions bring in industry professionals to educate interns on various topics such as resume building, facilitation skills, mindset training, and many other topics.

The length of an internship is variable and is dependent on the agency’s needs. Some internships may span a few months, while others can extend to several semesters. Factors such as project timelines, workload, funding availability, and the nature of the work can influence the duration of the internship.

  • Interns can expect to work up to 20 hours a week, but this can vary depending on the specific internship program and the requirements of the role.
  • The hours worked can be adjusted to fit your school and work schedules, allowing for flexibility in your internship arrangements.
