Experts Available

See our latest News Releases

Salt Lake County Health Department staff members are often regional or even national experts in their respective fields, and they are happy to provide media interviews whenever possible. Note, however, that the health department is legally prohibited by both HIPAA and the Utah Communicable Disease Control Act from releasing patient information of any kind.

We do not usually have experts available in areas related to individual medical care, such as internal medicine or medical specialties, or in topics related to fields regulated by state, federal, or other local agencies. We also cannot speak about situations occurring statewide or outside Salt Lake County. (See Related Agencies for suggestions on what agency to contact for frequently requested subjects outside our scope or geographic area.)

Contact a public information officer to schedule an interview; we can generally provide experts in the following subject areas:

  • Air pollution and health
  • Car seat safety
  • Chronic disease prevention
  • Disease outbreaks and epidemics
  • Drinking water
  • Epidemiology and disease surveillance
  • Food safety and restaurant inspections
  • Hazardous waste
  • Housing issues
  • Hygiene and disease prevention
  • Immunizations
  • Infectious diseases that are of public health concern (flu, West Nile, pertussis, measles, etc.)
  • Methamphetamine contamination
  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Public health medicine
  • Public health policy
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Swimming safety and hygiene
  • Tobacco use and cessation
  • Travel medicine
  • Vehicle emissions
  • Vermin/rodents
  • Vital records (birth and death certificates)
  • Water quality
