What happens when I go to court?

Your court hearing may be held in person or virtually over Webex. Prior to your hearing reach out to your CJS case manager, your attorney, or the court directly to find out how your hearing will be held.

My hearing is virtual over Webex

If your hearing is to be held virtually over Webex, you will receive a link prior to your hearing. To prepare you can download the Webex App ahead of time by using this link:

Virtual hearing tips

  • Ensure you have access to computer, phone, tablet etc. that has a camera, microphone, and internet connection.
    • If you do not have access to a internet-accessible device, you may contact the courthouse to find out alternative ways to attend your hearing.
  • Remain on mute when not speaking as to not disturb proceedings.
  • Ensure you are in a quiet, private area when attending your hearing.
  • Refrain from eating or drinking anything except water.
  • Smoking or vaping is not permitted.

 

Court tips

  • Dress, to the best of your ability, in courtroom appropriate attire.
  • Arrive early to allow yourself time to find the correct court room. If your hearing is held virtually, enter the virtual hearing early to allow time to troubleshoot any issues.
  • Bring any documentation the court or your attorney asked you to provide
  • When addressing the Judge, use “Judge” or “Your Honor”
