Salt Lake County Facility Closures

CC_text_SM.jpgUnfortunately, during an outbreak like this, it’s necessary to close facilities and suspend services to limit the spread of the COVID-19.

This is our most up to date list of facilities and programs that have modified service delivery.

Salt Lake County Government Center

After being closed for some time in order to implement best practices to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Government Center (GC) has begun a phased reopening.

The public is required to make an appointment prior to visiting the GC. Please be sure to call the specific office from which you seek services from. Not sure where you want to go? Call (385) 468-7000.

Health Department
  • Immunization Clinics: Closed.
  • WIC: Virtual services only; call 385-468-3660 for assistance.
  • Vital Records: Open only at 610 South 200 East, Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm.
  • STD Clinic: Open by appointment only.
  • Environmental Health: Building closed; call 385-468-3860 for assistance.
  • Injury Prevention/Car Seats: Closed.
  • Travel Clinic: Closed.
  • Tuberculosis Clinic: Open by appointment only.
Animal Services

Salt Lake County Animal Services is open by appointment only. Walk-in foot traffic will not be permitted at this time in order to follow Covid-19 protocol stated by the National Animal Care & Control Association. For more info on that please visit our protocol here.
 
Returns to Owners: If someone believes their pet is at the shelter, call 385-468-7387, please leave a message, or email animal@slco.org, during normal business hours to set up an appointment. Please leave a message if the line is busy. Allow up to 48 hours for an enforcement specialist to respond.
 
Licensing: by mail or online: Have questions email animal@slco.org or leave a message at 385-468-7387. Allow up to 48 hours for a licensing specialist to respond.
 
Adoptions: Adoptions are available by appointment only, email adoptions@slco.org. Allow up to 72 hours for an adoption specialist to get back to you.
 
Fosters: If someone is interested in fostering a specific pet, please email fosters@slco.org to set up an appointment. Allow up to 72 hours for a foster specialist to respond.
 
Animal Emergencies/Incoming Stray Pets: If someone has an animal emergency or a stray/lost animal, please call Dispatch at 801-743-7000 and an Animal Control Officer will be in contact to assist you. You can also email them at animalcontrol@slco.org. Allow up to 72 hours for a response to an email.

Donations: Here is a list of items that we always need donated, or make a monetary donation. Please email AN-Donors@slco.org for additional information.

Libraries

Salt Lake County Library locations are open to the public 11 am-7 pm weekdays and 11 am-5 pm Friday and Saturday.

Masks and social distancing are required in all library locations. Please limit your visit to one hour.

Book drops are open to accept returns and all branches are offering curbside delivery of holds for patrons unable to come into the branch.

We also have extensive online resources available. The County Library's collection of digital resources gives you online access to e-books, magazines, audiobooks, language tools, online courses, homework help, and more. See a complete list of The County Library’s digital offerings here.

Here are some frequently asked questions we’d like to address:

Q: What materials are available online?

A: Explore our amazing online resources like Flipster (eMagazines), RB Digital (eBooks), Rosetta Stone (language tools), Lynda.com (online learning), and so much more, all available for FREE with your County Library card at thecountylibrary.org We are also holding online events and activities. A complete list is available through our website.

Q: Should I return my materials? Will I accrue fines or fees?

A: Yes, please return your materials. Due dates were extended until the end of June, but fines will accrue for past-due materials. Returned materials will be quarantined for a 3 day period before being checked in and backdated.

Q: I requested materials through Interlibrary Loan – what will happen with those?

A: We will work with other libraries to extend the loan dates for requests that were already in process. We are suspending new Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests.

Q: I don't have a library card. Can I still access online resources?

A: If you are a Salt Lake County resident, please fill out the online application here. After you've applied online, please call Customer Service at (801) 943-4636 to verify your information. After that, you'll be able to access the online resources.

Recreation Centers
Select County recreation centers remain open with limited amenities and modified operations. In order to ensure the safety of patrons and staff, masks and social distancing are required at all times in every one of our facilities.  Patrons are encouraged to contact their recreation center to inquire about available amenities or to make reservations as drop-in visits will be limited and subject to availability. To make a reservation, or access more information, go to recreation.slco.org. Availability of our facilities is contingent upon our ongoing response to the COVID-19 health emergency.
Parks & Trails

County parks and trails currently remain open to the public with social distancing requirements. Visit Parks & Recreation Updates for the most recent information.

In accordance with the State’s Utah Together plan and guidance from the Salt Lake County Health Department, playgrounds, dog parks, pickleball courts, skate parks, open fields, paths and trails are now open with social distancing requirements in cities currently in the “Yellow” status of the Utah Together plan. Restrooms in parks will be open.

If you plan to visit your local park, please follow these tips to do so safely:

  • Follow the CDC’s guidelines for personal hygiene and stay home if you are feeling ill or exhibiting any symptoms of illness.
  • Observe the CDC’s minimum social distancing recommendation of keeping at least 6 feet from people outside of your household at all times.
  • Restrooms are closed, so plan ahead and wash your hands before and after visiting and bring hand sanitizer.
  • Pack out what you pack in to help maintain the safety of Park staff.
