Updated as of May 20
Salt Lake County Library locations continue to remain closed until further notice. Book drops are open to accept returns, and curbside delivery of holds will begin May 26.
While our physical branches are closed to the public, we have extensive online resources available. The County Library's collection of digital resources gives you online access to e-books, magazines, audiobooks, language tools, online courses, homework help, and more. See a complete list of The County Library’s digital offerings here.
Here are some frequently asked questions we’d like to address:
Q: What materials are available online?
A: Explore our amazing online resources like Flipster (eMagazines), RB Digital (eBooks), Rosetta Stone (language tools), Lynda.com (online learning), and so much more, all available for FREE with your County Library card at thecountylibrary.org
We are also holding an online Storytime, Monday-Friday at 10:30am, accessible on our Facebook page.
Q: Should I return my materials? Will I accrue fines or fees?
A: Book drops reopened on May 18 and you can now return your materials. We have not assessed fines or fees while the branches are closed, and have extended due dates into early and mid-June.
Q: I didn’t pick up my hold – will it still be there when the branches reopen?
A: Yes. We will be extending holds, and they should still be at your pickup branch when it reopens.
Q: I requested materials through Interlibrary Loan – what will happen with those?
A: We will work with other libraries to extend the loan dates for requests that were already in process. We are suspending new Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests.
Q: I don't have a library card. Can I still access online resources?
A: If you are a Salt Lake County resident, please fill out the online application here. After you've applied online, please call Customer Service at (801) 943-4636 to verify your information. After that, you'll be able to access the online resources.
Q: When will the branches reopen?
A: We are working closely with the Mayor’s Office and Salt Lake County Health Department recommendations to assess when branches will reopen. We do not have a date yet.
