Salt Lake County Expungement Navigator Project (2019-2021)

The Salt Lake County Expungement Navigator Project was created to assist individuals in need of expungement services.  

A federal grant was used to provide funds for BCI application and certificate fees. Periodic Expungement Day events were held where volunteer attorneys would assist participants in determining their eligibility for expungement and discuss other options with those not immediately eligible. The grant expired at the end of September 2021, in anticipation of Clean Slate / Automatic Expungement implementation (Feb 2022).

To provide sustainable and continuing support for petition-based expungement, the Expungement Tool Kit website was built by the County as a community resource that provides information and guidance on cleaning up Utah criminal records.  This self-service guide assists individuals looking to complete the expungement process without an attorney.
