Division of Youth Services
Youth Services Milestone Transitional Living Program (TLP) serves young men and women ages 18 to 22 who are facing homelessness in Salt Lake County. There are two locations – the Milestone TLP house in West Valley City houses six (6) females and the house in Sandy houses five (5) males. The properties are being leased from the Salt Lake County Housing Authority and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
The mission of the Milestone TLP is to end the cycle of homelessness and dependency by helping young adults become self-sufficient through access to safe housing, stable employment and connections to ongoing support and resources.
Participants are expected to meet with case managers on a regular and on-going basis while they work together to establish and achieve goals that move them toward independence. A lack of progress towards these goals can result in forfeiting their housing.
Milestone TLP participants begin the program with minimal rent payments ($100 to $200) that increase $50 every three months. The rent increase is meant to help youth adjust to market value rent payments and to transition into independent housing in a short amount of time.
Youth can earn financial incentives by completing their education, finding employment or volunteering in the community. Youth can also earn incentives based on their monthly accomplishments of goals. Those incentives are awarded once the youth is ready to positively transition out of Milestone and into a place of their own.
Milestone Plus vouchers for apartments in the community are available to selected successful graduates.
