FAQ - Parks and Recreation

recreation.slco.org

How do I make a park reservation?

First determine which agency is responsible for that park facility. County parks are listed at www.recreation.slco.org and near the front of the telephone Yellow Pages in the Community Pages section. City parks, state parks, national parks, national forests, and ski resorts are listed there as well. City and County administrative phone numbers are located near the front of the White Pages in the Government section.

If it is a County park call the Salt Lake County Park Operations office at 801 483-5473. Requests for reservations are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis beginning the first working day of January each calendar year.

Recreation buildings are available year-round.

Picnic facilities and game equipment may be reserved for use from May 1 through September 30.

Reservations are not accepted for the following holidays (except for Millcreek Canyon):

  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Pioneer Day, Labor Day
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day
  • New Year’s Eve

Check, cash, or money order must make payment. Credit cards are not accepted at this time. Reservations and payments should be made at least two weeks in advance and will be accepted no later than three working days before the reservation. Reservations for Saturday, Sunday, or Monday should be made by 2 pm on the prior Wednesday.

Game equipment may be rented for softball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, football, bingo, and tug-of-war.

Where do I register for a County sports league?

Adults call the County Sports Office at 801 270-7260 or stop by the office in the County Ice Center at 5201 South Murray Park Lane. Youths call the Recreation center nearest to them

What are the distances and amenities along the Jordan River Parkway trail?

Trail maps are available at www.recreation.slco.org. The trail is currently paved from 7800 South (Gardner Village) to 4200 South (approximately 6.5 miles). Pavement starts again at 3700 South and continues north to 2200 South (approximately 2.5 miles). Another stretch of paved section extends nine miles from Jordan Narrows Road (17000 South) to Utah Lake. There is also a three-mile section beginning at South County Pool and going north, east, and south to Bangerter Highway at 13800 South. To estimate mileage between points we use six blocks to a mile. Money has been requested from the state to put up informational signage along the trail.
