The Salt Lake County Human Resources Division is granted authority through U.C.A.,
Title 17, Chapter 33, "County Personnel Management Act". The Act directs
the County to implement a personnel system that embodies the following:
- A system for public recruitment and competitive selection of qualified applicants for initial merit appointment.
- Policy and procedure for equitable and adequate compensation of employees
for work assigned to
their job classification based on market and other professional criteria.
- Policies governing retention of employees based on their adequacy of performance.
- Fair treatment of applicants and employees in all aspects of personnel
administration and protection
from illegal discrimination.
- Policies governing employee participation in political activities and related prohibitions.
- Provisions for a formal appeals and grievance procedure with protections from discrimination, coercion, restraint, or reprisal.
In addition to these statutory requirements Human Resources provides services in other Human Resource arenas including:
- An employee Assistance Program (EAP) which provides personal and confidential counseling and referrals for employees and family members.
- Administers benefits programs including medical, dental, life insurance
programs, retirement, and personal retirement savings\investment accounts
(401K, 457, and EERP plans) and pre-tax deductible cafeteria plan.
