Aimee Winder Newton has been serving on the Salt Lake County Council since January 2014. Her district encompasses Murray, Taylorsville, West Valley City and West Jordan, and a small portion of South Salt Lake and Millcreek.
During her service on the council, Aimee has focused on increasing government transparency, improving our criminal justice system, and striving for greater budget accountability.
Aimee serves as vice-chair of the council. She is also the chair of the Jordan River Commission, a board member for the Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District, and chair of the Utah Association of Counties Urban Counties Caucus. She believes that being collaborative and reaching across the aisle are essential in her role on the council.
Prior to serving on the council, Aimee was the communications director for Taylorsville City where she focused on making government more transparent and improving community outreach. She has been involved in the community for over 18 years – serving on the Taylorsville Economic Development committee, Planning Commission, and on the Granite School District Community Council.
She graduated from Taylorsville High School, Ricks College and the University of Utah, where she received her BS in Mass Communications.
Aimee and her husband, Matt, have been married for over 20 years and enjoy their four children. In her spare time she loves to read, play the piano and travel with her family.
