Salt Lake County is fortunate to have an abundance of natural beauty, parks, recreation facilities, and cultural opportunities. A list of over 100 free or discounted activities in January 2013 has been put together for your benefit.
Salt Lake County is involved in many activities that serve the public and enhance our quality of life. Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation improves lives through people, parks and play. Salt Lake County operates facilities across the entire Salt Lake Valley from Draper to Rose Park.
As we begin the new year let us be grateful for and celebrate Salt Lake County.
Salt Lake County Library Services is the largest library system in Utah with 18 branches serving over 623,000 registered cardholders and circulating over 16 million items annually. The Library has issued 37,000 new library cards in 2012. 556,000 e-books and e-audiobooks have been checked out this year, and the public computers have been used for 520,000 hours in the same timeframe.
Located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, Clark Planetarium explores the wonders of space and science through the state-of-the-art ATK IMAX and Hansen Dome Theatres, exhibits, and the Planet Fun Store. Each year, Clark Planetarium education programs serve over 85,000 Utah School children through the “AstroVan” outreach program and in-house field trips.
The organizations that receive Zoo, Arts and Parks funding touch the lives of millions of people throughout the County. The diverse ZAP organizations reach an enormous number and cross section of citizens within the county and make a generous contribution to the vibrancy of the County. 3.5 million people received free admission from a ZAP recipient event in 2011 and 5.9 million people in Salt Lake County attended a ZAP recipient event in 2011.
